Ocampo, Michoacán: In a surprise operation carried out early this Sunday, about 30 elements of the Municipal Police of Ocampo, some say the town's entire police force, were arrested and will be transferred to the city of Morelia to be investigated for their alleged participation in criminal acts, including murder of the PRD mayoral candidate, Fernando Ángeles Juárez.
In the operation, carried out by the Sub Secretariat of Public Security, the director of Public Safety of Ocampo, Óscar González García, was also arrested, is said to have fired shots at the Michoacán Police when they was preparing to arrest him on Saturday morning.
High level officials of the SSP Michoacán, said that the surprise operation was necessary after "the humiliation" that Venancio Colín, director of State Public Safety, suffered in a first attempt to arrest the municipal police on Saturday he was "run out of the place by no more than 16 municipal police elements, even though I was in charge of an operation with more than 60 officers of the State Police, so a new action plan had to be implemented ".
The 30 municipal elements and the police command of Ocampo will be presented to the Internal Affairs and Legal Committee of the SSP and will be investigated for their alleged link with organized crime in that region. The Municipal Police Chief and at least 5 elements may be directly involved with the murder of the candidate.
Among the criminal acts in which the complicity of the municipal corporation is presumed, is the recent shooting of the PRD candidate for the mayoralty of Ocampo, Fernando Ángeles Juárez, which occurred last Thursday outside his residence.

While the municipal police are investigated, security in the municipality located in the eastern region of the entity will be in charge of the Michoacán State Police.
