Patriots re-sign Danny Shelton

Dale Zanine | USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots’ defensive lineman, Danny Shelton, finished last season on a high note.

According to Pro Football Focus, he earned a team-high 83.4 grade from Week 16 until the Super Bowl. He was also very effective in stopping the run against the Rams in the championship game, where Los Angeles was held to just 62 rushing yards.

These reasons alone were probably major factors in the Patriots’ decision to bring him back for another season as Shelton and the team agreed to a one-year deal on Monday.

Although Shelton only logged one start and 13 appearances in the regular season, his performance did not go unnoticed. And with Malcom Brown gone to New Orleans and Trey Flowers gone to the Detroit Lions, Shelton’s signing is a familiar sign to help strengthen the defensive line.
